Sickle Cell Program Update
In recognition of Sickle Cell Awareness Month in September, we teamed up with various organizations to host community blood drives and continue to develop our Sickle Cell Specialty Donor Program. Special thanks to MAS of Charlotte, the Pi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Logan Ministries Association, Grace AME Zion and Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas for their amazing support. Not only did we continue to educate the community about the importance of blood donation, but we collected life-saving blood and helped increase the population of minority donors to support our local sickle cell patients – many of whom rely on blood transfusions as part of their treatment.
We’d also like to give a shout-out to the Omegas, which held a fun team challenge for donor recruitment. They divided themselves into five teams and challenged each member to at least bring in six donors for the blood drive. Congratulations to the top three winners:
Winners
- Kerr Putney recruited 11 donors, which resulted in 9 successful donations
- 2nd Place – Anthony McGhee recruited 14 donors, which resulted in 8 successful donations
- 3rd Place – Willie Ramey recruited 11 donors, which resulted in 5 successful donations
Thanks to the donors and advocates who helped spread the word about our program and these drives. If you would like more information about our Sickle Cell Program please contact Sherri Glenn at 704-972-4728.
