Giving Thanks To Blood Donors
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, reflection on that for which we are truly grateful. Here at CBCC, we are grateful for our blood donors – the selfless individuals who sacrifice time and pints to save the lives of local patients. But, of course, it is not about us, it is about local patients why we do what we do. This Thanksgiving, a few of our local patients would like to share their thanks to you in you in their own words…
“A few years ago, I was thinking of retiring somewhere tropical. After receiving 145 units of blood, I chose to stay in a community that has a great support system, like the Carolinas. Without regular blood donors, my beautiful wife, my faith in God, faithful friends and local organizations like the YMCA…I would not be here today.”
Joe’s Story:
Joe was on the edge of life and death. Blood saved his life. After feeling dizzy off and on, Joe was rushed to a local hospital where doctors discovered stomach ulcers and a cancerous tumor the size of a softball on his pancreas. Joe was suffering from massive internal bleeding and blood transfusion began immediately. During a two-day surgery, Joe lost blood as fast as it could be transfused. Fortunately the bleeding stopped, but not before he had received 145 units of blood.
Happy Thanksgiving to you blood donor. Thank you for saving my life! Joe
